These Labradoodles and Double Doodles have shorter coats - some look almost like Labs. The short coat comes from the retriever side of the family, and can be a recessive gene. This means that two long haired parents can occasionally produce a puppy with short hair. Sometimes just the face has short hair, sometimes the entire body. Recently a DNA test for this gene has been developed, so we can now test our dogs for this gene and avoid producing short haired pups. Even though they don't look like the typical doodle, these pups have the same wonderful temperaments and are just as loved as their more hairy counterparts!
